Problem
Given the current post-pandemic, digital era we are in, one in ten adults reported symptoms of anxiety and/or depressive disorder, while one in five U.S. adults reported having any mental illness. Numerous pandemic consequences such as closure of universities, transitioning to remote/digital work, and loss of income or employment contributes to a negative impact on mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has completely altered our normal ways of living and will forever impact the way we interact, live and work.
Research Question
How can the design of a boutique hotel integrate health and wellness tactics for its occupants as well as accompanying for the new modern ways in which we work, socialize, and live?
Thesis
To design a hotel filled with suites that host the surrounding community of New Orleans as well as tourists. The intent is to integrate health and wellness within hospitality design for the result of comfortable, functional spaces that are appealing to all of the senses. Ranging from providing a vacation space, hosting weddings, or booking a conference meeting, every design element will be a result of thorough research and study that are a result of healthy practices. The purpose is to redesign a building into a harmonious sense of relaxation, aesthetics and function that tend to the quality of life.
